Let’s Talk Small Space Hacks!

I have a confession to make…I have a lot of shit! Thank you for making this a safe space friends. When I was on the hunt for my dream apartment, I had quite a long list of demands and one of them was major storage space. Having had a 1-bedroom apartment with 2 small closets, I knew it was time to spread out more. Now with my current space I gained an extra bedroom and closet, but the overall storage space left something to be desired. The answer obviously was not to get rid of my stuff, so I knew it was time to get creative with how I utilized my space for storage. Here are some tips below that I thought I would pass on!

Get Your Measurements Right!

One of the unique things about my apartment layout is that I do not have a linen closet, but more so linen shelves in the hallway. This was very awkward to deal with because for starters the shelves are higher up and secondly, they are very deep, they measure 28 inches deep and 35 inches wide. I quickly had to learn that measurements are very important with something like this because I did not want to waste an inch of space.

So, for this I had to search high and low for the correct product and stay within budget, which was a little harder than I anticipated. Because the shelves have very deep dimensions finding something within budget wasn’t looking like an option. Lo and behold I found a set of fabric storage baskets on Amazon, sold in sets of 2 for $42.99 each.

I knew the dimensions on the shelves, so I knew I would have to spend a pretty penny. Overall, I spent $92.22 on 2 sets of baskets, 4 baskets total. Although I was not crazy about the price, I will say that these baskets have been a life saver! With the sturdy handles, I can get the baskets down by myself, and they are extremely sturdy. Remember to always measure your spaces so you can make the most of it!

Baskets/Bins are Your Friend!

Now let’s talk about how amazing baskets/bins are! Not only do baskets help you store all your crap, but they are adorable. I have preached about the cuteness of storage bins in a previous article (My New Favorite Thing: Shop my Pantry Organization — ALL THINGS SYDNEY), if you haven’t read it yet, then what are you even doing with your life?

I have this bad problem, where I get a paycheck, want to buy stuff, and then I actually buy it (I will be seeing a specialist soon, please pray for me). Because of this, I when I am buying these things, I have to think about where to store stuff. I recently bought 2 of these baskets from my beloved Target. These are cute, affordable, and spacious! I am able to fit a queen-sized comforter, rolled, up in these baskets, which I plan to store under a bench in my bedroom.

 Utilize all Your Spaces!

When your space is limited, you get creative! You can’t afford to waste any space, so after you’ve used your closets, what’s next? For me that was under the bed.

These organizers have been a life saver because I have been able to store my very bulky comforters and their pillow shams. These are also good for shoes, blankets, books, and clothes.
